Land Activities – Comino

Important — 2026 Carrying Capacity Update: To protect Comino's fragile ecology, Malta implemented a strict "Book, Protect, Enjoy" system. If you plan to step off the boat onto Comino's dry land, you must pre-book one of three daily time slots online (08:00–13:00, 13:30–17:30, or 18:00–22:00) to receive an access wristband.

Beach & Sightseeing: The Famous Blue Lagoon

Description & Points of Interest. A jaw-dropping, world-famous channel of shallow water flowing over a seabed of brilliant white sand, creating a glowing, neon-turquoise swimming pool. The island itself is a car-free nature reserve covered in wild thyme. On land, you can hike up to the 17th-century St. Mary's Tower, which served as a filming location for The Count of Monte Cristo.

Location. West Coast of Comino Island.

Travel Tip (Ferry Logistics). Small, frequent passenger ferry shuttles depart every 30 minutes from Ċirkewwa Jetty (Malta) and Mġarr Harbour (Gozo) via operators like Comino Co-Op and Ebsons. Tickets cost around €13–€15 return. If you want to avoid the crowds completely, book the 08:00 early bird slot, or take a late afternoon boat to watch the sunset over the empty lagoon.

Non-Diving In-Water Activity: Snorkelling the Santa Marija Caves

Description & Points of Interest. Located on the northern coast of Comino, this is a spectacular network of shallow, open-ceiling sea caves and massive rock swim-throughs. The water is exceptionally clear, and because tour boats feed the fish here, snorkelers will find themselves completely surrounded by massive, swirling schools of friendly saddled bream.

Location. North-East Coast of Comino.

Travel Tip. Most standard Comino ferry operators will include a complimentary, short detour past these dramatic sea caves on your return journey back to the mainland if you ask them nicely before boarding.
